Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal | தேங்கா மாங்கா பட்டானி சுண்டல்

Thenga Manga Pattani Sundal is sour, sweet, spicy and rich in protein. It is a great evening snack and can be offered as prasadam during festivals. Tangy mangoes adds an extra punch to the sundal. 

Ingredients :-

 Pachai Pattani (Dry green peas)    1 cup
 Raw Mango (finely chopped)   ¼ cup
 Grated Coconut   ¼ cup
 Onion (finely chopped) 2 tbsp
 Red Chillies   3
 Mustard  1 tsp
 Urad dal  1 tsp
 Hing  Pinch        
 Oil  ¾ tsp
 Salt  to taste


Method :-

1). Soak* green peas overnight or at-least for 6-8 hours and pressure cook it for 1 whistle with salt and enough water.  After 1 whistle remove the cooker from stove immediately, otherwise peas will get split/mushy.

2). Heat Oil in a pan, add mustard and let it splutter. Then add urad dal and channa dal, fry till it turns golden brown. Then add onions, red chillies, curry leaves and hing, give it a stir. 
3). Add the cooked peas and mix well. Then add the grated coconut and chopped mango pieces. Combine everything together. Switch off ! Pattani Sundal is ready.
Quick Snack is ready ! Serve with hot cardamom tea..
Notes :-

# If using frozen peas, no need to soak or boil. It tastes much better with dry peas.
# *Soak the peas in hot-water for an hour in an air-tight container.  
# Any kind of pulses can be used to make sundal. 
# Avoid onions, If you are planning to prepare this for Navarathri/festival. 
# Do not over cook onions, it should be crunchy.
