Dosakkaya Pappu | தோசைக்காய் பருப்பு | Yellow Cucumber Dal

Ingredients :-

Dosakkaya (small size) | 1 |
Toor dal | ½ cup |
Turmeric powder | ¼ tsp |
Sambar powder | 1 tsp |
Tamarind | small gooseberry size |
Green Chillies | 4 |
Red chilli | 1 |
Hing | generous pinch |
Mustard | ¼ tsp |
Urad dal | 1 tsp |
Channa dal | 1 tsp |
Curry leaves | few |
Oil | 1 tsp |
Salt | to taste |
Method :-

1). Soak the tamarind in water for 10 minutes and extract the juice discarding the pulp. Let it be thick, keep aside. Cook toor dal with turmeric powder(¼ tsp) and castor oil(¼ tsp), keep aside. Peel the skin and de-seed the cucumber, chop into chunks and keep aside.
2). In a 2 liter pressure cooker, add 2 tbsp water along with a tsp of cooking oil. Then start layering, firstly add onions, green chillies, chopped dosakaya, cooked dal, tamarind extract, turmeric powder, sambar powder and salt. Close the lid and cook on high for a whistle, it will take around 6 minutes. Switch off !
3). Release the pressure and combine everything together. Dosakaya will be cooked properly but will hold its shape. Do the seasoning with mustard, urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves, red chilli and hing, top it on Dosakaya Pappu.. Done !!
Serve with steamed rice, dollop of ghee and poriyal.
