Frankenmuth is knows as Michigan's little Bavaria. The quaint city is
well known for Bavarian heritage, hospitality and charm. The Bavarian inn and Zehenders restaurants features
Frankenmuths famous chicken dinners.
The Bavarian inn restaurant is one of the oldest eateries in the country. Twelve themed dinning rooms with bunch of different names.
Dozens of hand painted beautiful murals grace the walls of this restaurant.
It's been 37 years since the Pied Piper murals were completed.
I was betting between Zehender's and this, mainly reserved a table here for the murals.
The staff were dressed in traditional attire.
We Ordered :
Famous Chicken family dinner
Chicken tenders
Beer sampler
Started with fresh-baked bread. Chicken
Tenders was crisp and hot. It came with fries.
Chicken dinner was served family style. Noodle soup along with 4 cold salads are served first. Then hearty sides of buttered noodles, mashed potatoes, vegetables and dressing along with chicken filled the table.
Some of the salads had a German flair to them. We liked the various sides and salads that came with more than chicken. My personal favorites were coleslaw and cranberry relish, it was so refreshing. Buttered noodles was good with crispy toppings. Pasta salad was decent. However I felt Chicken being the center of attention was over hyped, it was just okay. Noodle soup was very bland.
The food was good but
nothing was over the top. I did not find the food to be as expected
especially for the price. They did not serve dessert that comes as part
of dinner. We forgot to ask as we were so full. I might return for the
atmosphere or may be to see different rooms but not for food.
We
were interested in pretzel rolling experience, but they aren't
currently offering due to staff shortage.
Make a reservation in advance or be prepared for longer wait time. Parking can be difficult during the peak hours/weekends.
Don't miss the murals on the stair way and castle shops in the basement that are fun to explore.
Cheers,
