Mushroom Peas Pulao | காளான் புலவ்

Mushrooms pair particularly well with peas. This pulao/pulav is hearty and delicious.
Ingredients :-

Button Mushrooms - 2cups - sliced ;
Medium Onion - 1 finely chopped ;
Frozen green peas- 1cup ;
Long rice / Basmati rice - 1cup;
Salt to taste ;
For the Seasoning :-
Olive oil - 1tablespoon ;
Cumin seeds - 1teaspoon ;
Bay leaves - 1;
Cinnamon stick - ‪½‬ inch ;
Powders :-
Turmeric powder - ‪½‬teaspoon ;
Garlic - 2cloves (finely chopped) ;
Red Chili powder - 1teaspoon ;
Coriander powder - 1teaspoon ;
Method :-
------------
1. Chop the onions and garlic.
2. Clean, wash, soak (for 30 minutes) and drain the rice.
3. Clean the mushroom and slice it  (not very small pieces).
Preparation :-
------------------
1). Heat oil and add all the ingredients under seasoning.
2). When the Cumin seeds sizzle, add the turmeric powder and saute for 5seconds.
3). Then add the chopped onions, garlic and fry. Season with salt and cook until the onions are slightly golden.
 4). Now add the mushrooms, salt and fry on a high heat until the water runs.
5). After few minutes, add red Chili powder, Coriander powder and saute for some more time.
6). Cover and cook the mushrooms for about 10minutes until they are browned and release water.
7). Once the mushrooms are browned, add green peas.
 8). Now add 2 cups of water, needed salt, drained rice and pressure cook for 1whistle (or) transfer the contents to a rice cooker and switch on the rice cooking mode.
 9). Once done, fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
Serve hot with a dollop of ghee. This Pulao goes best with plain yogurt, fresh cut cucumber & tomato slices.
