Zucchini (Courgette) benefits & tips

Zucchini also known as a courgette is wonderful when steamed, sauteed, grilled or stuffed and baked.


Benefits :-

Zucchini is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B1, B2, B6, C, calcium, zinc, niacin,  protein, manganese, dietary fiber, potassium, copper, folate, phosphorus and provides some beta carotene.
Zucchini is a powerful antioxidant and has anti inflammatory properties which helps cure asthma, as it contains Vitamin C. Regular intake of zucchini effectively lowers high homo-cysteine levels in the human body.

Zucchini have high water content (over 95%), high nutritious value and contain a very low amount of calories, so they make the perfect snack item for people on diet. 

Zucchini is believed to be beneficial in preventing heart disease and related symptoms, such as high cholesterol. 

The rind of zucchini contains the nutrient beta-carotene, which is known to be full of antioxidant properties and thus, helps protect cells against oxidation damage.

Buying tips :-

# To pick the freshest zucchini, Look for a smooth, unblemished skin and nice dark green color with a moist stem end and a shiny/glossy skin.
# Smaller zucchini's are generally sweeter and more tender than larger ones.

# Small to medium sized zucchinis are most tasty.

Storing Tips :- 
------------------
They can be found abundantly in the summer; freeze them to have around in the winter months.
  
# Store zucchini in a plastic bag in the refrigerator crisper for 4 to 5 days. 

# Do not wash until ready to use.  

# Zucchini can be shredded, bagged, and frozen for later use. But when it thaws, it will be super wet.  Squeeze the water out before adding it to recipes.

Cooking Tips :-

# Be sure to wash your zucchini well as it tends to be gritty from dirt.

# When grating zucchini, leave the stem on to give you a grip as you work.

# Overcooked zucchini will end up as mush.

# Zucchini have a high water content. To avoid the dish turning into a diluted mess, salt and drain them first. 

# No need to peel or seed, young zucchini can be eaten raw in salads. It's completely edible once the stem end is trimmed.
