Pasiparuppu Masiyal | Pesulu Pappu | பாசிப்பருப்பு மசியல் | Mashed Greengram

Pesulu Pappu | Pasipayiru Masiyal | Mashed Green Gram is the most comforting traditional staple of  Kongunadu cuisine. I am gonna share my mom's recipe today. 

Ingredients : -

 Pasipayiru | Whole green gram dal    ½ cup
 Onions   1
 Garlic (crushed)    3-4 
 Cumin    1 tsp  
 Coriander seeds    1 tsp  
 Green chillies    4 
 Turmeric powder   ¼ tsp
 Curry leaves   few  
 Castor Oil  ¼ tsp
 Cooking Oil   1 tsp  
 Salt  to taste

Method:-

1). Pressure cook the whole green gram with a pinch of turmeric powder and castor oil with 2cups of water. Leave it for 3-4 whistles, make sure the dal is well cooked. After releasing the vapour, drain the dal and reserve the remaining water for rasam. 
2). Heat oil in a pan, add cumin, onions, green chillies, curry leaves and coriander seeds. Saute till onions turn translucent.
3). In a mixer, add the above sauted contents along with crushed garlic and a handful of dal. Finely grind it and then add the remaining dal to the above ground mixture. Give a quick stir and make it coarse, switch off . Tasty Masiyal is ready to serve !! 
Serve with hot steamed rice and a dollop of ghee. I served it with Pasiparuppu Rasam & Carrot Cabbage Poriyal
