Ridge gourd Poriyal | Ridgegourd Chutney | Peerkangai Poriyal | Peerkangai Chutney | 5 Minutes | Opos | 2 in 1 Recipe


Ingredients :-

 Ridge gourd    1
 Onions (roughly chopped)     1 
 Tomato (roughly chopped)   1 
 Red chillies   4  
 Grated coconut    1 tbsp  
 Tamarind    small gooseberry size  
 Turmeric powder    ¼ tsp
 Sambar powder    ¾ tsp 
 Hing      pinch 
 Mustard      ¼tsp
 Urad dal   1 + 1 tsp
 Channa dal     1 + 1 tsp
 Coriander seeds    1 tbsp  
 Cumin  to taste
 Salt to taste

Method :-

1). Peel the Ridgegourd skin, cube the flesh part and peel separately. Keep aside.

2). Take a container that can be placed inside the cooker. In that container, combine turmeric powder, sambar powder, hing, salt and cubed peerkangai. Keep aside.

3). In a 2 liter pressure cooker, add 2 tsp of water and 1 tsp of oil. Layer the onions, tomatoes, chopped ridge gourd peel, tamarind, red chillies and salt. Make space in the middle and place the prepared container (step 2). Close the lid and cook in high for a 1-2 whistle and switch off.

4). For Poriyal :- Let the pressure go itself and remove the inner vessel. In a separate pan, do the seasoning with oil, mustard, urad dal, channa dal and curry leaves. Top this seasoning along with grated coconut. Combine everything together. Done !

5). For Chutney :- In a separate pan, saute cumin, coriander seeds, urad dal, channa dal in oil till dals turn golden. Grind this along the above cooked ingredients for chutney. Grind it to a smooth chutney.

I served this chutney with Paniyaram. It was a lip smacking combination !!
