Simple Dal Tadka



Ingredients :-

 Toor Dal   ½ cup
 Tomato  1
 Onion (finely chopped)    1  
 Garlic (crushed)  3 pods  
 Turmeric Powder   ½ tsp  
 Chilli Powder  1 tsp 
 Curry leaves     few
 Hing (asafoetida) generous pinch
 Cumin   ½ tsp
 Coriander leaves    for garnishing   
 Castor Oil 1 tsp
 Ghee / Cooking Oil   as needed
 Salt  to taste

Method :-

1).  Pressure cook toor dal along with turmeric, castor oil and 3 cups water for 2 whistles. Once pressure releases, mash and set it aside.  

2). Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and when it splutters and add onions, crushed garlic, hing, curry leaves and salt. Saute till onions turn golden.

3). Then add turmeric powder and chilli powder, stir to combine. Cook for a minute and then add tomatoes saute till tomatoes becomes soft and saucy.
  4). Add the cooked dal to the pan and let it simmer for 3 to 4 minutes. Finally add the chopped coriander leaves.
Serve hot with steamed  rice, dollop of ghee and Poriyal. I served it with fish fry ! 


Note :-
# Dal cooking time can vary depending on how fresh the lentils are.
