Semiya Kichadi is a simple, quick and healthy breakfast/tiffin/dinner recipe. I prepare this when I don't feel like doing much of cooking.
Ingredients :-
------------------
Semiya | 1 cup |
Onion (finely chopped) | 1 |
Tomato | 1 |
Curry leaves | few |
Green chillies (long slit) | 2 |
Grean peas | ¼ cup |
Oil | 2 tbsp |
Mustard | ¼ tsp |
Channa dal | ¼ tsp |
Urad dal | ¼ tsp |
-------------
1). Take 1 cup of semiya/vermicelli and lightly roast without oil and fry for
few minutes till it turns light brown. (Optional) Keep aside.
2). Heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan, add mustard, channa dal, Urad dal, curry leaves and saute. When mustard splutters and dals turn slightly brown, add onions and green chillies. Saute until onions turns translucent.
3). Add green peas, salt and mix well. Add 2cups of water and let it boil.
4). After the water starts boiling, simmer the stove and add semiya.
Cook till all the water is absorbed and it becomes thick. (fully cooked).
Serve the tasty kichadi with coconut and kara chutney !!
Notes :-
----------
# You can add the veggies of your choice. Like, Beans, carrot, green peas ,cauliflower, cabbage, potato.
# Amount of water totally depends on the variety of semiya you use. For one cup of semiya it should be 1 - 1/2 to 2 cups of water. If u need more water add hot water.
# Don't add too much water then semiya will become soggy.
