Apple Bajji | ஆப்பில் பஜ்ஜி | Apple Fritters

Apple Bajji / Apple fritters are perfect rainy day snacks. They are quick and easy snack with apples coated in spicy gram-flour batter. Apple Bajji and cardamom tea, a perfect combo on a rainy day.
It was snowing heavily, I suddenly thought of preparing a quick snack. I had lots of apples lying on the kitchen counter, So I decided to prepare apple bajji. DH loved it and got five stars from everyone who tasted it. Bajji's vanished in no time.

Ingredients :-
-----------------
 Apple     2
Besan | gram flour | kadala maavu     1 cup
 Chilli powder    ½ tsp
Idli | dosa batter    1 tbsp
 Hing pinch
 Oil   for deep frying
 Salt  to taste

Method :-
-------------
1). Prepare the batter with besan, water, salt, chilli powder and hing. To test if the batter is right, dip a slice of Apple in and see if it coats it well without dripping off.
2). Core and thinly slice the apples into thin circular discs. Slice the apples evenly to ensure even cooking.
3). Heat oil in a pan on a medium flame. To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a small amount of batter into it and see if it immediately sizzles to the top. When it just about starts to smoke, dip the apple slices in the batter and gently slide in the oil, one by one.
4). Turn over and fry the bajjis in small batches in medium heat until golden brown. Remove the golden brown bajjis onto strainer / kitchen paper towels to drain the excess oil. Repeat the process until all the slices are done.
Apple Bajji is ready !! Serve hot with Coconut chutney and Cardamom tea.

Notes :-
----------
# Alternatively you can cut the apple into thin wedges instead of slices.
# Don't make the slices too thin otherwise they will loose their shape and crumble.
# Make sure the batter coats the apple slices evenly.
# You can use any type of apples, even sour apples tastes good. This recipe is a good alternative to use sour apples.
# If you do not have idli/dosa batter handy, you can use cooking soda.
# You can use onion slices instead of apple slices to prepare onion bajji. Check this link for the recipe -> Onion Bajji
