Banana Ripening & Preservation Tips

Most people like bananas when the peel is yellow or yellow with brown flecks.

To Ripe :-
-------------
# If the bananas you buy are too green, you can put them in a brown paper bag overnight to speed up the ripening process.
# They ripen fast because there is no air and a lack of oxygen.

Quick Ripe :-
-----------------
Sometimes, you will have an urge to make something requiring overripe bananas, like banana bread, or milkshakes. But you don’t have any overripe bananas, and you don’t want to wait a few days to ripen them in a paper bag.

Luckily the magic of science has provided us with a solution to take regular or even slightly under ripe bananas and get them where we want them in an hour.

Simply spread your bananas (with the peels ON, please) on a cookie sheet and pop them in the oven at 300 degrees for an hour. Yeah, really, that’s all it takes. They will come out looking frighteningly black. But don’t worry, on the inside they are nice and soft and sweet. The heat from the oven activates the sugars in the banana, simulating the ripening process.
You can stick them in the fridge for a few minutes until the bananas are cool enough to handle, and then peel them open and see, not burnt at all! Just soft and ready to mash into whatever recipe you’ve got a hankering to make.

This doesn’t work with completely green bananas – they do need to be at least mostly ripe to get the desired results. But since they are usually close to ripe when you buy them, this shaves off a few days of waiting!

Slowdown banana ripening :-
--------------------------------------
You can slow down the banana ripening process by storing the fruit in the refrigerator. The skin may darken, but the banana will be just right for several days.

Storing over-ripe banana :-
------------------------------------
# I often find that I end up with one or two bananas that never get eaten. They turn a lovely dark brown and become very tender.
# Not to worry, just don’t throw them out. Peel the bananas and place into a freezer bag or other container and freeze until needed.
# Works perfect every time and nothing goes to waste!
Overripe bananas certainly have nutritional value, they lose some benefits and gain others if you eat them at this stage
# If your bananas get too ripe before you can eat them, don't throw them away. Store them peeled in the freezer in a baggie to use in banana smoothies or milkshakes.

Calories :-
Bananas have a higher calorie count than many other fruits due to their high sugar levels. As a banana ripens, its nutritional content may change, but the calorie count remains the same,
