Dates Oatmeal | பேரிச்சம்பழ ஓட்மீல்

Dates Oatmeal is a perfect way to start a day of healthy eating. This recipe packs a handful of healthy ingredients that will keep you feeling full for hours. Oats are simple, comforting ingredient that you can dress up or down depending on your mood. I’ve been on a huge hot oatmeal kick these days.

Oats has lots of healthful attributes, including fiber and unique antioxidants that helps to reduce cardiovascular disease. Dates are packed with soluble and insoluble fibers. Also they are an excellent source of potassium, vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients :-
------------------
 Dates   1 cup
 Oats  1 cup
 Milk   1½ cup
Chopped nuts   3 tbsp (for garnishing)
 Salt   pinch

Method :-
-------------
1). Halve the dates and remove the seed. Chop them into smaller pieces and soak it in boiling water. Cover and let it sit for 20-30 minutes. I prefer to soak it over-night.
2). Strain the dates retaining some of the soaking liquid. Remove the skin from the dates(optional, I don't do). Blend the dates with few tbsp of the soaking liquid to a smooth puree. Keep it aside.
3). In a microwave safe bowl, add oats, milk, salt and microwave on high for 3 minutes. Continue cooking and stirring until it is creamy. (timings depend on the type of  oats). Remove from microwave and let it cool.
4). Mix the dates puree to the cooked oats and combine well.
Garnish with a tsp of dates puree and a drizzle of almond milk. You can also include chopped nuts !
Notes :-
----------
# Use your favorite dried nuts for topping. You can also use chocolate sauce on top if you like chocolate flavor.
# Dates really add a terrific flavor, so do not avoid. But you can very well substitute dates with raisins.
# For serving, Instead of dates puree as topping, you can even use honey.
# I did not add extra sugar, its just the sweetness in the dates. If you like your oatmeal sweeter, add more dates or you can also add honey. It totally depends on the sweetness of the dates.
# Milk quantity depends on the type of Oats you use(rolled oats, quick cooking oats ets). Use the instructions in your oats packet and adjust accordingly
# You can use any type of milk of your choice. You also can use Almond milk, Soy milk or Rice Milk to make this Vegan.
