Chicken Kurma is a flavorful accompaniment with a great blend of Indian herbs and spices. This delightful kurma pairs well with Chappathi, Aapam, Idiyappam, Naan and Parotta varieties.

1). Clean, cut and wash the chicken into medium size pieces. Grind the items listed under "to grind" with little water. Keep it aside.
2). Heat oil in a pan, add bayleaf, cinnamon, cloves, and cumin. Saute until fragrant and aromatic. Then add chopped onions, curry leaves and ginger garlic paste. Saute till the onions turns translucent and add turmeric powder, mix well.
3). Once the onions are sauteed, stir-in the grounded paste slowly and combine well.
4). Add yogurt, coriander powder and mix everything together. Then add the chicken pieces along with a cup of water and bring it to boil.
5). Season with salt to taste and let it cook. Cover and cook the chicken for 12 to 15 minutes or until the chicken is tender.
6). Finally, add the pepper powder and stir in well for the final 5 minutes of cooking. Check the salt and spices, continue simmering gently over a low heat until the gravy has thickened a bit. Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander & mint leaves.
Simple South Indian chicken kurma is ready! Serve this kurma with Jeera Rice or Chapathi.
